RICHARD T. HOSS

      Richard T. “Rick” Hoss has practiced in Mason County, Washington for 35 years. His work includes representation of hundreds of small and medium businesses, clients with property, development and land use issues, contractors, and individuals with trust and estate needs. He has represented individuals, families, insurance brokers, lumber mills, shellfish companies, farmers, inventors, developers, real estate brokers, agents and a wide variety of entrepreneurs.

     Rick graduated from Willamette University in 1982 with Juris Doctor and Master in Business Administration degrees.  He especially enjoys representing closely held and family owned businesses, contractors, and professionals with their formation, governance, operations, transactions, dissolutions, and dispute resolution. Mr. Hoss has represented over two hundred general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers and design professionals in all phases of business and has developed specialized protective contract forms for all components of construction and development projects.

     Rick represented Grant Victor in Victor v. Stihl, Inc., Federal Court in Tacoma as co-counsel in a business tort claim resulting in the landmark jury verdict of $12,604,000. This was the Northwest’s largest jury verdict at the time.

     Rick has represented Mason County families, businesses and residents in approximately 1,000 trials, arbitrations and mediations and is a trained mediator. Mr. Hoss has been a real estate broker, resort hotel manager, owned a small shellfish company, been on the board of two community banks, helped run a manufacturing plant, and worked his way through school as a logger. ​

      Rick is past President and long time Board Member of the Mason County Economic Development Counsel, past President, Secretary and long time Board Member of the Shelton Rotary, past Vice-President and long time Board Member of the Shelton Chamber of Commerce and has volunteered his time and energy to Habitat for Humanity of Mason County, Cub Scout Pack 126, Boy Scout Troop 126, the Mason County Senior Activities Center, Skookum Rotary, Save our County Kids, Mason County Bar Association, the Tucker Family Foundation, and as a volunteer at Hood Canal School, Pioneer School and Shelton High School.  ​He is currently on the Executive Committee for the new Shelton YMCA.  Hoss is Secretary and Director of the Tucker Family Foundation, a major funder of local non-profits.  Among the recognitions awarded to Mr. Hoss include an award of meritorious service from the Port of Shelton, King Oyster Award for Shelton’s Oysterfest, and twice  as Shelton Rotarian of the Year.

 

      Rick enjoys hiking, climbing, crabbing, shrimping, fishing, diving, skiing, gardening and reading. He has hiked nearly every trail in the Olympic National Park and caught multiple steelhead in nearly all Olympic Peninsula rivers.​

 

     Rick's wife Martha is Pioneer School’s long time 7th grade science teacher. Both are native Washingtonians and they live on the historic Alfred and Agnes Anderson property in Potlatch on Hood Canal. Their son Matt is employed as a project manager at Thompson Instruments and their daughter-in-law Michelle is a research doctor  by day and biology instructor at Mira Mesa Community College in the evening.  Their daughter Jennifer recently received her MBA from UC Berkeley with honors and is a business development manager with in Seattle. Rick's law partner since 1982 is his older, wiser brother, Rob Wilson-Hoss.

Vicki joined the staff of Hoss & Wilson-Hoss, LLP in 2002. She has worked over 17 years in the legal field and over 30 years in office administration. Vicki assists Richard Hoss as his paralegal responsible for construction law and litigation, contracts, liens; business planning, LLC’s and corporations; business purchase and sale agreements and real estate transactions. Vicki also keeps Richard Hoss’ appointment calendar and handles his business accounting.

Danielle joined the staff of Hoss & Wilson-Hoss, LLP in 2004. She assists attorney Richard Hoss as his primary paralegal for all phases of estate planning, non-judicial foreclosures, real estate transactions, probates and civil litigation. Danielle moved to Mason County when she was four and grew up on Harstine Island. She recently graduated with her bachelors degree.
